Reading a loan and its repayment schedule
The Loans list
Small Loans > Loans (headed Active Loans) lists every disbursed loan with its Reference, Client, Principal, Outstanding, Daily Required, Status, Disbursement date and Maturity date.
- Use the Status filter to show Active or Completed loans, or All Statuses.
- Select a row, or the eye icon, to open the loan.
You can also reach a loan from the client's page, or from the Delinquency screen.
Loan statuses
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Active | Disbursed and still being repaid. Collections can be recorded. |
| Completed | Fully repaid. The loan closed automatically when its outstanding balance reached zero. No further collections can be recorded against it. |
There is no separate "close loan" step. As soon as a collection brings the outstanding balance to zero, the loan changes to Completed by itself.
The loan page
The top of the page shows the loan reference, its status and the client's name (select the name to open the client's page).
Field officer shows the officer responsible for the loan. It can be changed only by users with permission to reassign loan officers.
The summary cards show:
| Card | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Principal | The amount lent. |
| Total Interest | The interest for the whole term (the principal multiplied by the flat rate). |
| Total | Principal plus total interest. |
| Outstanding | What the client still owes now, including any penalties charged. |
| Total Paid | Everything applied to the loan so far, including any penalties paid. Money that went to savings is not included. |
| Daily Required | The instalment due each day. |
| Disbursed | The disbursement date. |
| Maturity | The date the last instalment falls due. |
| Daily Principal | The part of each instalment that repays the principal. |
| Daily Interest | The part of each instalment that pays interest. |
Because penalties are added to Outstanding, a loan that has been charged penalties can show an outstanding amount larger than its Total.
Below the cards are five tabs: Schedule, Collections, History, Savings and Arrears.
Schedule tab
The schedule has one row per instalment, one for every day of the term, starting the day after disbursement. Above the table you see Total installments, Paid and Overdue counts.
| Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
| # | The instalment number (day 1, day 2, ...). |
| Due Date | The day this instalment falls due. |
| Principal Due / Interest Due / Total Due | The amounts due for that day. |
| Paid | How much has been applied to this instalment. |
| Balance After | What the client will still owe after this instalment, if every instalment is paid on time. It reaches zero on the last day. |
| Status | See below. |
Money paid is applied to the oldest instalment first. So if a client has paid 4,600 on a loan with a daily instalment of 2,300, days 1 and 2 show as paid, whatever dates the payments were made on.
| Row status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Paid | The instalment is fully covered. |
| Partial | Something has been paid towards it, but not the full amount. |
| Overdue | Nothing has been paid towards it and its due date has passed. |
| Pending | Not yet due (an instalment due today is still Pending). |
The schedule is worked out from the payments actually received, so it always agrees with the Outstanding and Total Paid figures at the top of the page.
Collections tab
Collections (n) lists every collection recorded against the loan, with its date, the amount paid, and how it was split between Loan and Savings. See How payments are applied for how that split is decided.
History tab
Shows each payment as a timeline entry: "Payment received. Amount: ...", with the name of the person who recorded it and when.
Savings tab
Shows the client's savings: the Savings balance, the Available amount and the savings account number, and the Passbook of savings transactions. Savings belong to the client, not to one loan, so the same balance appears on every loan the client holds. You can record a deposit or withdrawal here with Top up or Withdraw. For more on savings, see Savings.
Arrears tab
Shows the loan's arrears history and penalties. See Arrears, penalties and fees.
